  1. It would help if there was a scheduled time and place that a certain class (optional of course) could meet and have a group tutoring session. They could maybe meet in a classroom that is not being used for about an hour. I know this sounds a lot like actual class, but in class there is a certain pressure to always know the correct answer. Students believe they should know the answer even though the topic might have been just introduced. While in class it feels like everyone knows the answer, but you so you don't want to ask questions. The difference is while being with a tutor you feel as if you have more time to ask questions and not as much pressure to know the answer. While being is this group tutoring session students know that their peers that are sitting around them also are having problems in that class because it was optional to be there.

  2. Though I agree with what E.S said, I think that the majority of effort to enhance students learning should be coming from the student themselves. I liked E.S's idea of having optional tutoring sessions but that doesn't really come from NOVA, that would come from students ability to make the effort and take that extra step to join a tutoring group if they felt they needed the extra help.

  3. I think that NOVA could enhance student learning by using technology more in the classrooms. I agree with E.S. I think that group tutoring session could be helpful to students especially if a student misses a class or gets behind

  4. I think that NOVA can enhance student learning by offering classes at more times. For those of us who work, either part time or full time, it makes it really hard to always find the classes we need at accesible times. Sometimes we might have to go to other campuses but a lot of times that isn't so. Yes this would cost more but it would help the students. And I also think that the study groups would fall more on the individual and students. Not so much on the school.

  5. NOVA can emphasize basic skills that are vital in Job environments;
    Typing skills should be enhanced by the school curriculum since most jobs require good and accurate typing skills.
    Writing skills should also be emphasized since most students today chat and text with too many abbreviations, this leads to poorly written papers in the long run. Less quizzes and more writing assignments would help.

  6. I personally think that there is nothing wrong with the teaching at nova. All the teachers are very nice and understanding. I dont think people understand NOVA is college, not high school no one is going to tell you when where or how to study, that is your duty and responsibilty as a student. For being a community college, nova is doing fine.
    However, half of the classes i personally need are not taught at the Manassas campus, which is a hassle,but it is small campus. This of course is understandable.

  7. I think that Nova should post a sheet outside each classroom, when that classroom is free because many students could use that room for studying and reasearch, many times the computer lab is filed and there arent many places to study.

  8. I think that the councelors need to help more with the students. A few times i have been to the guidance center and they wouldn't help because they wanted to leave early and they didn't give me much help at all. Also i think that the classrooms should be smaller because a few of my classes expecially my IT class where overflowing with students that should of not been allowed to sign up for the classs after the limit was passed.

  9. I dont really think theres is a glaring problem with Nova but there are a few minor flaws. One is that I understand that this is college but in high school I feel like the counselors were more interested in the success of the students and not just there for a paycheck. Also I feel like some of the teachers feel like they are better than the students. I mean I had this english teacher two semesters ago and she came from a big university and she didn't really care to meet or get to know the students and spent very little time explaining expectations or assignments, basically leaving us all wondering what we had to do. And finally I feel like a lot of students aren't great at taking tests and we should have more of a hands on approach to balance out some students who aren't great at test taking.

  10. I agree with those who posted comments regarding the counseling available at NOVA. With the FYE program I was involved with at a previous college, I had the same counselor who I met with regularly to discuss my schedule, difficulties I was having with classes, etc. The counselors at NOVA did help me figure out a possible schedule, but I felt that I was being rushed in the office. I would really like to see this program added on at NOVA.

  12. Yes! I really like the postive step that nova is taking to help students enhance their study habits and help them over all academically. I also think that there should be a designated classroom in which students can come to get tutoring andother tyoes of career goal and life skills help. After all we are here so can reach the next plateau, why not get there the correct way.

  13. I'd say just pull more information from the students and make access to computers on campus are the only thing major things I got against this school thus far. Other than that it is alright
