The top 4 have been selected!

Thank you for your thoughtful comments regarding the QEP proposals. The NOVA SACS Steering Committee reviewed the proposals carefully and decided to send four of them on for approval. Recall that NOVA will have one topic as the focus of the QEP. This topic must address student learning or the environment that supports student learning.

The four proposals are Citizenship Across the Curriculum, Early Academic Engagement, Enhanced Academic Advising, and Increasing Math and Science Literacy for Non-Majors. Here is a summary of the proposals. Your comments are always welcome.

Once the topic has been selected, a QEP development committee will be formed to investigate best practices and detail how NOVA will enhance student learning through the QEP.

If you have any questions about the proposals or the QEP process, please e-mail QEP@nvcc.edu.

Thank you for your input and suggestions!

  1. With community colleges across the country seeing the influx of students looking for direction in marketplace that is not steady, I believe it is the mission of NOVA to engage students early and often through Enhanced Academic Advising. If a new student is advised in the beginning, he/she seeks answers to questions as they arise instead of making educated guesses as to what happens next.

This would also help in identifying students earlier with academic challenges and give faculty the chance to mentor and coach the students TO graduation. Students do not need to be catered to, they need information that is applicable to their own unique situations.

Although a challenge, we as faculty have a responsibility to our students to advise and help find answers in the confusion going to college can produce.

I would volunteer to work that QEP! Sign me up!
